Do I need to remove my old flooring or have my house emptied?
- Every job is different. There are times we have to rip out the existing wood floor, but there are times we can go right over existing wood floor. With unfinished, it’s best if the house is emptied of all furniture, so the sanding and finishing remains consistent throughout the rooms. However, there are times we can work around it depending on layout of the house. With prefinished installations, furniture can be moved from room to room during the installation process.
Is engineered hardwood better than solid hard wood?
- Not necessarily better, however, engineered wood definitely holds up better against moisture and environmental changes. It does not gap and cup like solid wood.
What’s the difference between laminate, LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) and hardwood?
Laminate is budget friendly and it has a fiberboard core with a printed image on top and it’s NOT waterproof. LVT is very durable, waterproof and resilient it’s softer, quieter and easy to maintain. Higher end versions are extremely realistic looking, while the lower-end versions look like plastic. Hardwood is natural, elegant and can be sanded and refinished multiple times.
How long does installation take?
- There is no standard, each job has to be looked at individually and taken into consideration on its own for both cost and days on site. We work with you and your budget and come up with suggestions to suit your needs.
Are there hidden costs I should know about?
- In older homes, when ripping out existing floors and replacing with new, potentially there could be subfloor issues that we would not know about before doing demolition. However, we discuss options with our clients and let them know what those potential costs could be if they should arise.
What is the best flooring for pets/kids/basements?
- Most LVT and laminates are cost efficient, water resistant and waterproof. They hold up very well against scratches, so they are great options for basements, pets and children. However, a more elegant option is prefinished engineered wood flooring, which holds up very well in many environments, although not waterproof. Prefinished engineered wood flooring can be installed in basements, and the finish is much much stronger than finishes that are put on in the field.
What is your installation prep process?
- Preparation varies by job. Some jobs need extensive cementicous leveling materials and some jobs need no prep at all.
Can you match existing flooring?
- Yes, we can match existing flooring, including refinishing existing stairs to match new materials.
What is the cost of the install?
The cost of an install varies based on factors such as the size of the project, the materials chosen, and the complexity of the design. Contact us for a personalized estimate based on your specific requirements.
