Alite Flooring was born from a unique blend of craftsmanship, communication, and a commitment to doing things better.
Over 23 years ago, Michael and Charlie—two longtime friends with their Brazilian installers—were working on kitchens and bathrooms when a client asked if they could refinish floors. Without hesitation, they said yes, picked up a phone book, and found someone who could do it. That moment sparked an idea—and a business.
As demand grew, they noticed a recurring problem: many of the skilled installers on site didn’t speak English, which made it difficult to communicate with homeowners and led to costly misunderstandings. Michael saw an opportunity. He began placing English-speaking team members in every van—not always to install, but to translate, organize, and ensure nothing got lost in translation.
It worked. What started with just two vans quickly grew to twenty in the second year. Their ability to bridge language barriers became a hallmark of the business—and a major competitive advantage.
From there, Alite Flooring expanded rapidly. Starting with local homebuilders, the company earned a reputation for being reliable, responsive, and always ready to go the extra mile. That reputation led to bigger opportunities: high-rises in Jersey City, projects in Hoboken, and eventually, major developments across the river in New York. The breakthrough came through a friend working with Toll Brothers, who introduced Michael to their project management team. After a year of bidding—and losing—they finally landed their first New York job. The rest followed.
Today, Alite Flooring manages large-scale residential and commercial projects, from luxury homes with 20,000 sq. ft. of hardwood to high-end high-rises with tight timelines. But what hasn’t changed is our hands-on approach. We still love seeing a building go from blueprint to move-in. And we still believe that great customer service—before, during, and after the job—is what sets us apart.
